Structural transition and volume compression of CeBi up to 20 GPa
نویسندگان
چکیده
2014 The compression curve of CeBi up to 20 GPa was measured at room temperature by x-ray diffraction in a diamond anvil cell. Below 13 GPa, CeBi maintains its cubic structure of the NaCl-type with a bulk modulus B0 = 49.6 GPa, smaller than that reported for LaBi (B0 = 55 GPa). This anomalous lowering is attributed to a continuous increase of the cerium valence. At P = 13 GPa, CeBi undergoes a crystallographic transition. Two high pressure structures with close unit-cell volumes have been found to coexist : a tetragonal structure (space group P 4/m m m, Z = 1) and a cubic structure of the CsCl-type. The bulk moduli of the high pressure phases are markedly higher than that of the NaCl-type phase. The small volume change at the crystallographic transition is attributed to a decrease of the cerium valence or a lowering of the p-f mixing due to the larger cerium-bismuth distances in both high pressure phases. Structural properties of Sb2S3 under pressure: evidence of an electronic topological transition
High-pressure Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction of Sb2S3 up to 53 GPa reveals two phase transitions at 5 GPa and 15 GPa. The first transition is evidenced by noticeable compressibility changes in distinct Raman-active modes, in the lattice parameter axial ratios, the unit cell volume, as well as in specific interatomic bond lengths and bond angles. By taking into account relevant results...
متن کاملPressure-induced phase transitions of piezoelectric single crystals from the langasite family: La3Nb0.5Ga5.5O14 and La3Ta0.5Ga5.5O14.
The hydrostatic compression of piezoelectric single crystals of La(3)Nb(0.5)Ga(5.5)O(14) (LNG) and La(3)Ta(0.5)Ga(5.5)O(14) (LTG) was studied at pressures of up to 23 GPa in diamond-anvil high-pressure cells using single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The reflection-intensity data for LNG and LTG were collected at pressures of up to 22.8 GPa and 16.7 GPa, respectively. Both compounds sho...
متن کاملPreparation and Evaluation of an Elusive Polymorph of Mefenamic Acid by High Pressure Techniques
High pressure crystallization technique has been successfully used to prepare an elusive form II of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, Mefenamic acid. Single crystal of form II was grown at 0.3 GPa from an 4:1 methanol/ ethanol mixture as a solvent using Diamond Anvil Cell. Comparison of crystal structures show that the efficient packing of MA molecules in Form II results from the structur...
متن کاملEffects of high pressure on azobenzene and hydrazobenzene probed by Raman spectroscopy.
In this study, two hydrazine derivatives, azobenzene and hydrazobenzene, were compressed in a diamond anvil cell at room temperature up to 28 GPa followed by decompression. In situ Raman spectroscopy was employed to monitor the pressure-induced structural evolutions. Azobenzene was found to undergo a phase transition at ~10 GPa. Further compression to 18 GPa resulted in an irreversible breakdow...
متن کاملCsCl structure at high pressure [6]. Further the smaller value of bulk modulus in CeBi and in CeTe as compared to other Cerium chalcogenides and pnictide
Abstract— In the present paper, we have investigated the high-pressure structural phase transition of cerium monopnictide. The three-body potential model has been used to study the structural properties of this compound. Phase transition pressures are associated with a sudden collapse in volume. The phase transition pressures and associated volume collapses obtained from present potential model...
